Consultant invoice FAQ
What should a consulting invoice include?
Your name or firm, the client, the engagement or project reference, itemized hours/days or a retainer amount, any deliverables, total, and payment terms (net 15/30 is common). A PO number speeds up corporate payment.
Should consultants bill hourly, daily, or on retainer?
All three are standard. Hourly/daily suits project work; monthly retainers suit ongoing advisory. You can put a retainer and extra hours on the same invoice as separate lines.
What payment terms should a consultant use?
Net 15 or net 30 are typical; net 7 or due-on-receipt for smaller clients. Set the terms in the generator and add a late-fee note if you charge one.
